Good therapy is relational and collaborative, requiring a commitment of authenticity by both the client and the therapist. I'm not interested in labels or pathology but deeply intrigued by each person's unique story and the patterns which they repeat in their lives. Using a developmental, psychodynamic approach I work to help clients discover their own strengths, acknowledge their weaknessess, change maladaptive patterns and learn to accept all of who they are. I draw from a multitude of therapeutic models from cognitive therapy to attachment theory to mindfulness based approaches to help clients achieve a sense of mastery and wholeness in their lives. I specialize in working with trauma and dissociation, helping people make sense of their experience and, eventually to create meaning from their suffering. I enjoy working with women on identity, self-esteem and spirituality issues, encouraging them to learn to include themselves in the circle of care they provide to others. I'm a Level II EMDR trained therapist and have found it to be a useful tool for a variety of issues, including physical, sexual, emotional or spiritual abuse. It provides a way for people to metabalalize the trauma and integrate it into their life story, as well as helping them develop positive internal resources.
