Adolescents are part of families, have relationships, and become future parents. Helping them navigate through emotional issues of anger, focusing on schoolwork with ADHD, understanding careers, processing grief and loss, being aware of triggers for substance abuse, will help them along their journey in life. I have worked with adolescents in the middle and high school settings, foster homes,substance abuse facilities, and refugee camps. My "keep it real" approach and eclectic theoretical foundation, allows them to share their whole story and get to the main issue that appears to be hidden. As adults, if these issues are not addressed, they continue to limit progress and are at there strongest during our late 30's mid 40's. Understanding our developmental stages and temperaments will help to finally resolve these concerns. Growing up in NYC, traveling and living around the world, and serving in the Gulf War, gives me a rare insight to the diversity and commonalities of the human experience. Educating future counselors allows me access to the latest studies, theories, and applications to help clients meet their needs.
