A Directory of Mental Health Counselors and Therapists in the United States Over twelve thousand professionals with advanced degrees, licensed and professionally qualified.
I view counseling/therapy as a partnership between myself, the client, and their family/support system. I have extensive experience working with individuals, groups, and family/marital therapy. In addition to working with depression, anxiety, stress management, and relationship skills, I have focused heavily on adolescent behavioral and substance use issues, personality disorders, and trauma healing; particularly women who have abuse in their history and are currently experiencing distress in relationships, re-victimization, and/or substance use. I believe in meeting the client where they are at and moving forward in their time and stage of change. My approach to counseling services is three fold; education, skill building, and challenging negative thought patterns and replacing them with reality based affirmations and empowering statements (cognitve-behavioral therapy). Skill building can include assertiveness training, anger management, stress management, self regulation, interpersonal skills, coping skills, and problem-solving. Trained in DBT (dialctical Behavioral Therpay); a cognitive behavioral approach initially designed for treatment of borderline personality disorder. However, these skills have been useful in my every day life and are beneficial to all populations. I provided psychological first-aid in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina through the Red Cross
