As a clinical social worker with over 20 years of experience, I use a biopsychosocial approach with a perspective that draws on the mind-body connection and the importance of the individual's story. I provide Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy with a focus on solutions and possibilities for change. What is this biopsychosocial approach that clinical social workers often use? Biological includes your current health status, medical history, use of medications, diet, sleep patterns, and genetic history. Psychological includes moods, thoughts, feelings or emotions. How you interpret or think about your life experiences would fall into this category. Social includes your present living environment, family life, community support systems, work issues, and economic issues. In my work, I have facilitated a Recovery Group for individuals struggling with co-occurring addiction and depression or anxiety as well as a Pain Management Group for those struggling with chronic pain and depression/anxiety.
