Dr. John R Lucy

I have a strong interest in helping individuals and couples in the midst of life transition and/or turmoil find vision, connection and greater meaning for their lives. Life transitions can range from the dark and difficult times when you are unsure what to do, to the excitement of new opportunities. As a licensed clinical psychologist with a masters degree in theology, I enjoy connecting the personal ways individuals make sense of their lives with the larger body of knowledge achieved through clinical training and the current and evolving knowledge base of the psychology and neuroscience field. I formed my private practice in downtown Decatur after a 13-year career working in higher education as a counselor and administrator. I previously taught and supervised graduate students in counseling and clinical psychology. I have also worked in a hospital setting providing outpatient and inpatient care and consultation services. I offer five-session Career Visioning Workshops which lead participants through a step-by-step self-assessment process to help them develop a career vision which integrates personalized assessment with the Highlands Ability Battery, the gold standard among tools assessing abilities or aptitudes.
