Relational issues tend to be a larger struggle than we realize. Oftentimes, it is the relationship we have with ourselves which hampers the relationships we have with others.Our relationships start at birth and from that point, we are slowly trained how to interact with our environment and those around us in a way that is to our best advantage. However, life often throws us curveballs and we learn to use maladaptive interpersonal patterns to survive. Unfortunately, we all too often bring those patterns with us into adulthood - where they are no longer useful. I work with clients to help repair their personal relationships with themselves which helps them to better understand their interpersonal interactions with others. I have experience with more severe mental health disorders, as well as personality disorders, and the effects these have on both the individual and their families. I prefer to take an interpersonal and psychodynamic approach with clients. This helps one to see what has happened to bring them to their current point and helps them to see how they can make changes. Other clients do better with a Cognitive Behavioral approach, which I also use when appropriate.
