In a working relationship with either an adolescent, teenager, male/female adult client struggling with belonging, purpose in life, or making the relationships in his/her life work, I most often center clients on self-awareness, self-confidence and self-development. The counseling journey we experience together is to help clients identify their own goals as he/she becomes aware of his/her strengths and areas for improvement. Our counseling process is much like a supportive journey where I provide resources for clients in order to develop healthy relationships. Three core components of our working relationship includes narrative therapy: listening to your story to ensure you feel heard, reflecting feelings to assure your awareness of your emotional existences possibly causing hindrances, incongruences or distorted thinking, and goal development for solving or coping with unsolvable circumstances. My counseling supports Cognitive/Behavioral, Gestalt and Psychoanalytic theories. I believe present situations connects story patterns to history and learned behavior, which lends to irrational thoughts and behaviors while constructing one's own identity. Engaging clients in activities revealing one's purpose and life influences is key to my counseling.
