I am a licensed psychologist with a background in community mental health and university counseling, now practicing privately (since 2011). I take a holistic approach to therapeutic work, using the context of culture, personal development, and multiple dimensions of identity. My theoretical orientation might best be described as cognitive-behavioral underscored by relational and feminist principles. I also specialize in evidence-based therapies including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and behavioral activation. I frequently incorporate techniques like mindfulness into sessions in order to help clients learn more effective ways of coping and communicating. I enjoy working with a range of clients. My areas of expertise include treatment of eating disorders (including binge-eating disorder), LGBT-affirmative therapy, university/college counseling, and mood disorders. I believe strongly in being informed by existing literature and research and am currently working towards publication of my dissertation on therapists' attention to LGB identity. I have advanced training in DBT and am currently working towards DBT credentialing through Marsha Linehan's institute. DBT emphasizes skill acquisition aimed at regulating emotion, coping with stress, and increasing mindfulness. I am currently part of a private practice DBT team providing comprehensive DBT services.
