Psychotherapy with Dr. Hurd is solution-focused and goal-oriented. Cognitively oriented therapy involves time spent discussing your childhood (only when relevant), background, and/or emotional problems. Therapy may also address more serious issues such as eating disorders, depression, anxiety, sexual issues, various compulsions and other destructive behaviors. Dr. Hurd provides answers in terms you can understand, helping you find solutions to problems in the here-and-now, with a special emphasis on discovering alternatives to the "victim mentality" of blaming everything on your family, "society" or your biological make-up. Dr. Hurd is the author of "Grow Up America!" (2000) and "Bad Therapy, Good Therapy (and How to Tell the Difference)" (2011). He also writes the popular weekly column "Life's a Beach" published in several coastal Delaware newspapers. Dr. Hurd's therapy methods provide useful ideas about stress and time management, emotional repression and emotional over-indulgence. Practical suggestions for solving family or relationship conflicts can help in dealing with difficult people. Dr. Hurd is a solution-focused therapist who is on your side, but won't lie to you.
