Hello, my name is John Eitzen and I have worked in a variety of settings from inpatient psychiatric hospital, partial hospitalization programs, chemical dependency units, geriatric units and for the past 4 years in private practice. From this multitude of experiences I have found the importance of individually focused therapy to be critically important to be an effective therapist. It is this uniqueness that each client brings to therapy that I respect and focus upon to be respectful and effective in offering useful guidance, support, and understanding. In my practice I offer my training in EMDR, which extensive research and my own experience have show to be effective, in working with trauma resolution, poor parental attachment issues affecting the adult, substance abuse issues, and phobias. I also use Dialectical Behavior Therapy extensively offering many useful coping skills to reduce depression and anxiety. I also emphasize the use of mindfulness throughout the course of therapy as I believe this to be a most helpful skill in living a happy and successful life. The relatively new field of Positive Psychology also offers useful insights and skills to maximize a sense of connection and belonging which I employ as appropriate.
