One of our greatest assets is being able to experience, feel and remember different events, emotions and people in our lives. This same ability can present challenges. You or your child may be dealing with situations involving friends, family,school, illness, grief, deployment or some other uncertainties. I acknowledge your courage in seeing if counseling is the right fit for you or your child. I customize the counseling experience for each individual. I include age-appropriate Cognitive Behavioral techniques which help clients discover how thoughts impact behaviors. Together, we'll process these thoughts and how looking at them in a new way might be helpful. In addition to counseling, I am a Certified Child Life Specialist. I am trained to help children deal with illness, bereavement, coping and challenges such as deployment and having a sibling with special needs. Children experiencing stressors often exhibit challenging behaviors. I have skills to help children communicate feelings at the root of this behavior. Tools catering to a client's needs are used. Some examples are: solution-focused therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy,medical play therapy and sand play therapy. These methods help adults and children understand and cope with changing family dynamics, illness, behavioral patterns, anxiety, grief and life's challenges in a way that is comfortable for them.
