I work with clients who are dealing with many of life's challenges: grief, illness, trauma, alcohol & drug abuse, depression, anxiety, low-self-esteem, and unhealthy relationships. I also have experience counseling people who are subject to stigma and discrimination, such as members of the LGBTQ community and individuals living with HIV. I specialize in grief because it is a universal human experience, one that can ebb and flow over time. Grief is very unique to each person, so we don't always understand the ways in which we are being effected until the issues have become unmanageable. My method of counseling is holistic, individualized, and non-judgmental. I feel the ideal client-therapist relationship is based on trust and respect, and I use a strengths-based approach to create treatment plans that fit the identified needs of each client. There is an old joke: "How many therapists does it take to change a light bulb? One, but the light bulb has to want to change."
