My present focus is with children 3-12 years of age. Specific areas of mental health training have included Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Learning Disorders, Mood and Anxiety Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, trauma and grief/loss as well as methods for working with angry and/or dys-regulated children. Treatment modalities include Child-Centered Play Therapy and Synergetic Play Therapy. Cognitive Behavioral approaches are utilized when deemed appropriate. Parenting skills may be an area of interest/focus if/when requested. As a registered play therapist, I have a fondness and belief in the power of play. Being a strong advocate of non-directive play therapy models, namely Child-Centered and Synergetic Play Therapy, I believe that play is the language as well as the work of the child. Prior to establishing a private practice, I worked 39 years in education, initially as a special education teacher (which provided me with skills in observation/evaluation) and then as a school counselor at the elementary and middle school levels. Supporting parents has been an integral part of my work.
