I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia since 1979 and have extensive inpatient and outpatient experience. My eclectic approach incorporates aspects of cognitive-behavioral counseling, mindfulness and learning theory. I have trained in Gestalt therapy process with Dr. Claudio Naranjo at the Esalen Institute. My goal is to assist clients with reintegration of feelings, learned behavior and bodily awareness in order to foster greater independence, spontaneity, trust and authenticity. Although I follow an educative rather than medical model, I will refer clients to the appropriate physician if their behavior appears to have a physiological component. My specialties include career development counseling and the treatment of mood disorders. I also work with communication problems within families to help improve interpersonal relationships. I am certified to provide supervision to candidates for Licensed Professional Counselor. Evening and early morning hours are available. Having worked in hospitals, prisons, schools and private practice settings, I bring a broad life experience perspective to my practice and call on creative individualized strategies to help my clients reach their own goals for spiritual and emotional healing.
