I operate with the assumption that happiness and well being is contingent on good relations with others and a healthy regard for ourselves. Most problems presented in counseling can be understood as disconnection, an inability to embrace ourselves or the people around us. Therapy can be a means of reestablishing meaningful connections by addressing the obstacles that thwart us. These obstacles can take many forms, such as excessive fear, unresolved childhood injuries, stalemated conflicts, distorted beliefs, insecurities, depression or addictions. I have found that therapeutic conversations are a very effective means for overcoming the obstacles to connection, meaning and happiness. I concentrated in individual therapy in graduate school and participated in extensive post graduate training in couples and family therapy. I enjoy my work and feel fortunate to have been able to forge many productive therapeutic alliances with clients over the 30+ years I have been in practice. I understand that taking the step to initiate therapy can be anxiety provoking. We are by nature fearful of uncertainty and the reluctant to change. Accordingly, I try to be sensitive to these concerns and make every effort to provide a therapeutic environment that is safe and free of judgment.
