"I am never upset for the reason I think" (CIM). When facing stressful life challenges, many have a belief system based on past experiences and perceptions that may come from distorted or irrational thinking. Changing our belief systems is the foundation of my work as a psychotherapist. I use humor and laughter in treatment. Although laughter may not be the "best" medicine, it certainly helps us cope with emotional and physical stressors. The therapeutic relationship should be based on mutual trust and respect. My ideal client is male or female, from 18 to 100, with motivation to work on the challenges they face. I have extensive training in addiction studies and therapeutic humor. Although many of our life issues are certainly not funny, by developing "humor strategies" we can confront and cope our difficult situations. I work with PTSD, anxiety disorders and depression using techniques, such as Mindfulness Meditation and Visualization. I treat various medical issues, such as traumatic brain injuries, dialysis, and pain issues. I also work with caregivers for the chronically ill and elderly. My professional and personal experience with pain issues and caregiving for an elderly parent with Parkinson Disease, gives me a unique perspective to help others.
