In her poem "The Summer Day", Mary Oliver poses a question designed to wake us up. She offers it as a challenge and as a blessing. "Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?" Perhaps you find yourself at a time in your life when you feel called to awaken; to courageously and creatively face the challenges of your life; to peel away the layers of falseness, fear and resistance; and to live more honestly and joyfully the life you want and need to be living. We all want to be happy. We all want to love and be loved. We want to feel that our life is meaningful. In my 30+ years as a counselor, I have had the opportunity to assist and support many women and men - individually, in couples, families and groups - as they have embraced, explored and struggled with the questions and challenges of their lives - relationship difficulities; stress related problems; health crises and caregiver issues; unresolved past or present trauma; life transitions; addictions; loss and bereavement; or simply a desire for self-exploration and growth - and found their way through to a deeper,truer connection with their lives.
