Part of my work with adults and teens is to create a safe and trusting environment, understanding that my office may be the only non-judgmental place that a client has. I believe that the best path to complete and effective treatment is an integrative approach where the therapy is tailored to fit each individual client's needs. My passion is working with people from a variety of cultural backgrounds (ethnic, SES, disability, etc.), listening to their story, and collaborating with them to explore both personal and available external resources that they can draw on for growth and healing. My areas of special interest include: chronic illness/disability, anxiety issues, trauma/PTSD, gender/GLBTQ issues, multicultural issues (i.e., integration of two ethnic cultures, socioeconomic issues, spirituality issues), depression and personality disorders. I also work have worked with Somali individuals, primarily in group settings. Sometimes the therapeutic process seems difficult; my priority is to be honest and transparent in practice to make each session as comfortable as possible. I view therapy as a team effort between the client and therapist to work towards goals such as resiliency, emotional functioning, self-awareness, and self-understanding.
