I work in partnership with my clients, both individuals and couples, to identify needs and goals, and to establish a treatment plan. I recognize that each person is the expert on him- or herself, and that we must be a creative team. I use both concrete information and humor, tempered with respect. In treating relationship stress and damage, my clients and I focus on identifying and capitalizing on strengths, while acknowledging and addressing areas of weakness. I teach communication skills, teamwork skills, and how to build and demonstrate mutual respect. Finally, as needed, we explore strengthening the romance between the partners. With individuals with anxiety disorders, adjustment disorders, and life transition concerns, I teach coping and cognitive skills. I also use EMDR as a treatment for both mild and severe trauma. Treatment proceeds at a pace that is comfortable for each client, while achieving maximum benefit.
