Finding the right counselor can be difficult, but it's well worth the work. I believe in the importance of the therapeutic relationship and process, and use Equine Assisted Psychotherapy in most of my sessions, which can be particularly powerful for those who have struggled with the traditional therapeutic office setting. I work primarily with adolescents and young adults, and have helped clients work through everything from anxiety and depression to relationship difficulties, trauma, and substance abuse. Equine Assisted Psychotherapy provides clients with the opportunity to practice realistic life and relationship skills in session, while receiving the honest and immediate feedback of a horse. Most sessions take place on the ground, and the focus is on the counseling process, not horsemanship. Previous horse experience is not required.
