I believe that we all have needs that drive our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The need to connect, to be seen, to be heard, to succeed, to feel alive... Sometimes we are successful in getting our needs met, sometimes we are not. Often, we think there is only one way to be. We see and interpret our experiences with the patterns we establish in our early years. These ways of interacting in the world aren't always as effective or helpful as they may have been when we were young. Fortunately, we can change. From research to practice, my areas of greatest expertise include identity development, LGBT-related issues, gender, family-of-origin, relationship problems, shame, grief, and personality disorders. I have been described as someone who has a "deep sensitivity to the human beings in [my] life" and I seek to truly understand. In addition to my clinical work, I am a full-time college professor. This pairing of academic and clinical work is rewarding as each informs and enriches the other. Highly committed to continuing education and consultation, I am currently completing a two-year program in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy out of Chicago.
