For over 25 years, I've worked with adults, couples, adolescents, and children on a range of issues, including depression, anxiety, relationship dilemmas, behavior problems, grief, and stress. I listen carefully and work with my clients to understand their patterns, such as repeatedly thinking, feeling or doing what they would rather not. Respecting the need for confidentiality, empathy, honesty and humor, I help them explore conscious and unconscious thoughts/feelings and identify how significant past experiences have influenced the present. Working through issues, using insight and the therapeutic connection, strengthens self acceptance, fulfillment, and success in relationships, school and work. The influences of unconscious wishes, fears, inhibitions, etc. which can be expressed in dreams, life choices or physical symptoms are explored. Couples work to find a balance between focusing on themselves individually, honoring the other, and working to support the relationship, which they created to sustain and hold them. When working with children I use play therapy, because it is through play, as well as talking, that children express themselves. Working collaboratively with parents, who know their child best, I work to support their relationship with their child, the child's development and the family's healthy stable functioning.
