Brain Optimization There's no such thing as "normal." As the saying goes, "everyone is normal...until you get to know them." Chances are, you or someone you love will suffer from an imbalanced brain at some point in your life. This may be due to a specific issue, like ADD or anxiety, which may or may not have been diagnosed. Or, it could be the result of years of brain mistreatment that adds up to mental fogginess-something most doctors can't diagnose and can't tell you how to fix. The Amen Clinics methodology can help you learn more about your brain, choose the most appropriate treatment program for your brain, and help you comply with the program using the unique tools only offered at the Amen Clinics. Traumatic Brain Injury Your brain is a very soft organ of about the consistency of tofu. This delicate piece of tissue is housed in a hard skull to protect it from injury, and most of the time, for most people in the world, this protection serves them well for life. But there are over two million new brain injuries reported every year-and those are just the ones we know about. Many brain injuries, the ones in which the person does not lose consciousness, are never noticed, never reported, and therefore never treated. Even psychiatrists, who treat people for brain-related issues, are often unaware of brain injuries that may affect cognitive function, which may undermine the treatment they prescribe. Mental Health Amen Clinics perform clinical evaluations and brain SPECT imaging to help diagnose and treat their patients. SPECT imaging (which stands for single-photon emission computerized tomography) is a special kind of photograph we take of the brain to help us better understand how it works and what is going on inside of it. SPECT can specifically help people with brain trauma by: Helping identify if there has been brain trauma Showing deficits not visible in anatomical studies Identifying affected systems Helping determine if treatment is working correctly Helping determine if there could be co-occurring conditions that need treatment Increasing treatment compliance by showing pictures of results Providing scientific documentation that may help with special services or legal issues Helping people gain a better understanding of their brain through visuals
