I believe that human growth occurs in a relational context, and we all have the ability to envision a better life and create our own solutions. To me, counseling is a collaborative process in which clients and I join to discover possibilities, set achievable goals, and follow the chosen path together. I provide a safe space for clients to explore their challenges, gain insight into underlying needs, consider effective ways to meet those needs, and acquire whatever tools they need to strengthen important relationships. Adopted from the child welfare system as an infant, I located my birth mother in 1984 and have enjoyed a positive relationship with her ever since. My twenty years' experience includes domestic and international adoption, foster care services and post-adoption support, and mental health counseling to adolescents and adults. My work is grounded in Attachment Theory and strengths-based and solution-focused in approach. I have participated in advanced training with internationally recognized attachment specialist, Dr. Daniel A. Hughes and was part of the team that developed and implemented a ground-breaking model for improving outcomes for foster youth.
