When opportunities for change present themselves they are often masked as a crisis. My work as a therapist is focused on assisting people to make successful use of these "opportunities" to resolve the pain and conflict that move them to seek help. Repeating patterns of negative self judgment, abusive behavior and guilt reactions are often part of the cycle that leads to depression, anxiety and continued compulsiveness. My specialty is in assisting people to discover and trust their own healing power. Each of us needs to connect with our own path in recovery from whatever the illness or stress that is. Over the past 30 years, my work has drawn from academic study and formalized training in Gestalt Therapy, Substance Abuse counseling, Stress Management and Interpersonal Relationships. I also draw from my life experiences in personal recovery and growth with attention to diet, nutrition and the practice of yoga and meditation. My own recovery process from brain injury has spurred me to learn more about various cognitive and neurological factors that effect healthy and positive life. These insights have allowed me to better understand, support and assist others who want to take personal responsibility to develop their own healing path of recovery.
