Believing that many seek therapy for support and guidance my approach is client-centered and oriented toward re-framing the issues and developing new skills and competencies. Using a systems approach, my clients and I engage in a partnership, both in full participation and both defining and developing ongoing goals and identifying areas of growth. Using this empathetic, open-minded and inclusive approach empowers the client system to develop personal and inner strength, promotes greater self-confidence, resilience and stability and reinforces their resolve to continue to work towards a healthier self both during and after therapy. I have been providing psychotherapy for over twenty years to individuals, couples, groups and families in Virginia. I received my Masters in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond in 1994 and have practiced both privately and in the City of Richmond, Hanover County and Arlington County for the past two decades. My primary specialty is working with couples and families, including individual work with adults and adolescents. Family system work often involves issues related to transitions, both expected and sudden, behavioral changes, developmental challenges, depression and anxiety. However, my background and treatment experience is broad and includes working with many mental health and substance abuse issues.
