Focus in therapy initially addresses the obstacles that bring a client into the therapy process. These stressors often include relationship difficulties, balancing career and personal life, addressing grief, loss or trauma, or adapting to health problems as well as searching for personal meaning in life. Addressing depression and anxiety and helping to develop adaptive coping strategies become integrated, as well. As therapy progresses, clients often continue to problem solve, as well as to articulate the ways in which their personal histories may be incorporated into their life dilemmas, and choices, and work to find meaningful direction in their current lives. I feel that therapy is a conversation in which the client and therapist work to make meaning of the client's experiences and feelings. This results in a deeper understanding of the client's history and its impact on the present, as well as in greater ability to engage meaningfully in relationships. My practice is diverse, with clients coming from many different walks of life. Focus is often on search for personal meaning, as well as on interpersonal relationships. My professional experience as a developmental psychologist, family therapist, and from a previous career in early development and parent-child relationships informs my work.
