I have been in private practice for the past seven years and really enjoy helping clients achieve emotional and spiritual freedom. Hundreds of clients in my practice have experienced lasting, positive change as a result of a combination of EMDR and non traditional psychotherapy. EMDR is a powerful psychotherapy approach that has helped an estimated two million people of all ages relieve many types of psychological distress including trauma, anxiety, panic, disturbing memories, persistent negative thoughts, depression and post traumatic stress. The EMDR technique allows clients to quickly and efficiently reprocess memories resulting in improved thought processing and emotional well being. Traumatic memories are initially stored in the brain's amygdala. Bi-lateral eye movement, tapping and/or sound stimulates the movement of information through the corpus collosum from the brain's right hemisphere to the left. This process allows the memories to move to the pre-frontal cortex. Research shows that people who have experienced childhood trauma have low levels of cortisol which results in difficulty with self regulating / soothing. Because EMDR changes a client's thought process and emotional state, they are able to respond better to life stressors and they experience a distinct reduction in trauma symptoms.
