I use insight-oriented and cognitive-behavioral approaches to psychotherapy, and excel working with individuals and couples to identify roadblocks to their progress. Once the roadblocks become known, we look together at what skills may be necessary to learn---or refresh---in order to help live with more confidence and competence. Whether clients may be healing from loss, looking for pre-marital counseling, seeking more fulfilling work-life balance or wanting to finally feel comfortable in their own skin, I can help them gain forward momentum regardless of where their journey may have begun. My specialties include psycho-oncology (working with cancer diagnoses and treatment), counseling for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities and their families, and supporting those going through life transitions and approaching significant milestones such as retirement and career transitions. Dr. Rubin's memberships include the National Register of Health Service Psychologists, the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, and Psi Chi, the National Psychology Honorary. She credits playing organized sports and a stint playing professional women's basketball in France for teaching her resilience, tenacity, teamwork and handling winning and losing gracefully.
