I practice a cutting-edge "Third Wave" of therapy new to St. Louis, that accesses and heals the full spectrum of individual trauma. The most current psychology has expanded the definition of trauma to include a much broader spectrum of human experience. This new approach uses recent neurobiological research and a strong therapeutic alliance to access, address and release trauma, relieving the client from symptoms and allowing them greater ability to form social relationships. We know that untreated trauma exacerbates addiction, anxiety and depression, leaving people susceptible to prolonged symptoms. Talk therapy, alone, can never access this important psychophysiological material. Helping the client to learn techniques of mindfulness and body-brain tracking, not only helps relieve their trauma, it also helps the client learn new ways to integrate emerging emotion, thought and action. New learning of this kind can mean a broadening in their ability to recover from future traumas. Brainspotting and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy are new, dynamic modalities allowing powerful brain-body processing, designed to address complex aspects of trauma: physical injury--including sports, surgery (especially in the first 3 years of life), car accidents, death or breakups of significant relationships, humiliating or deeply disappointing experiences, illness or disabling conditions.
