I am pleased to be able to provide you with information about my practice and myself in order to help you in the process of finding assistance. My special areas of expertise include the mood disorders (bipolar disorder and depression) and anxiety disorders. Despite the current focus on the utilization of medication for most of these disorders, I believe strongly that people do best when treatment is a collaborative experience involving detailed evaluation of the individual, empathic education to assist the individual in playing an active role in their care, and the development of a bilateral trust between physician and patient. Psychiatry is a rapidly changing specialty. We are at the beginning of an explosion in knowledge of the causes of most psychiatric disorders. This is because most of these disorders appear to have genetic predispositions. Learning and understanding of genetic and molecular contributors to these conditions will allow the development of more effective biologic treatments. Having a career spanning 36 years, I have had an opportunity to develop listening and empathic skills that continue to enhance my abilities to diagnose, educate, and treat individuals with complex problems. I have never-ending gratitude that I continued to have this opportunity.
