My passion in seeking a clinical degree has always been working with at-risk youth. I am specifically interested in helping youth to discover their unique gifts; to provide them with hope and opportunity so they can realize their potential despite the challenges that they may face. I have been richly rewarded in my career; working in residential treatment settings providing individual, group and family treatment for youth with mental health, substance abuse and developmental disabilities. I have also provided home-based treatment to families and outpatient therapy services to both children and adults, aged 18 months - 65+.. My overall clinical orientation is Cognitive Behavioral with training in the following methods: Motivational Interviewing and Stages of Change (Substance Abuse), DBT (Emotional Regulation/Personality D/O or features), EMDR and TF-CBT (Trauma). In working with individuals with Autism or other social skills challenges, I use Social Thinking. My work in a day treatment school also provided me with a solid knowledge of behavioral interventions. Between residential, home-based, outpatient and school settings; I have a thorough understanding of treating behavioral/emotional challenges so that my clients may receive the least restrictive treatment to meet their needs.
