I view stress responses, such as depression or anxiety, as a normal reaction to challenges we face as human beings. Some of the paths we travel while searching for purpose in life are filled with obstacles that lead to grief, heartache, confusion, anger, etc. While emotions are often times very painful and unwanted, it can be useful to view them as clues to help us find our way. When we face obstacles that are overwhelming in size or number, our path becomes difficult to navigate. My role is to help you navigate your journey. This may involve finding a different path, eliminating obstacles, or building skills to manage obstacles. My role also consists of helping you find courage, and simply being present in the moment with you as you face your darkest times. Factors important to the therapeutic process include personal autonomy, personal morals, a sense of optimism, perseverance, capturing one's own unique potential, willingness to build loving relationships, and ability to find the beauty in our imperfections. Factors important to the therapeutic relationship are trust, empathy, genuineness, and patience.
