I approach my work as a therapist with empathy, compassion, and acceptance. I believe in a holistic approach to counseling, which means a collaboration between body, mind, and spirit. Body can refer to nutrition, exercise, sleep, yoga, or alternative medical approaches, such as acupuncture. Mind refers to any of the many approaches to counseling or healthful mental practices, such as meditation or guided meditation. Spirituality does not have to mean being religious, but rather a connection to a greater something. It's about a feeling of belonging. It's about having a sense of meaning and purpose. My approach to counseling is eclectic; however in most cases I most often use cognitive behavioral therapy (looking at how thoughts effect feelings). One of my specialties is working with couples. I believe that a healthy relationship is one in which you understand and acknowledge the needs, desires, and boundaries of yourself and your partner. Communication is a learned skill, not something that we automatically know how to do, and I help couples learn the tools for improved communication.
