My vision of therapy is meeting my clients as whole people who sometimes need a new perspective. At other times, a couple may need a third party to help them hear one another. Grieving children need to learn that their surviving loved ones are not going to abandon them. I have worked with all ages first as a special education teacher, later as a college counselor, and as a grief counselor with hospices. My life experiences enable me to meet you with an open mind. Through CBT and a mix of mindfulness and positive psychology, I help people reframe their thoughts. Working with grieving people and helping them to live again without their loved one has been a specialty. I help those who have lost a person to suicide which is one of the most difficult problems to learn to manage. I also help people develop more effective parenting skills. Having been a teacher and a parent, I am able to meet you as a person whose life I understand and value. I also help those grieving the loss of a pet. My dog, Briar, may accompany me to sessions. She helps put children and adults at ease in the counseling room.
