My goal is to empower individuals to accept themselves, regardless of weight, size, or other culturally defined standards of beauty. I teach my clients to practice intuitive eating skills by learning to be mindful of both their bodily needs, and their emotional needs. I help identify and process the underlying causes of various disordered eating behaviors, such as childhood traumas, dysfunctional communication patterns, and maladaptive coping skills. By processing these issues, clients can learn to implement healthier coping mechanisms and more effective communication skills with which to express their thoughts, feelings, and needs in a safe and constructive manner. I am passionate about promoting positive body image and self esteem by challenging the cultural and societal pressures to achieve "perfection" and by encouraging each of us to embrace the possibility of a wide range of body types and sizes that can be considered both healthy and beautiful. I periodically offer small group therapy sessions for women struggling with body image and food related issues. These groups provide education, therapy, and practical skills in an open and supportive atmosphere. I work closely with other healing professionals to help my clients access the seamless support of a comprehensive treatment team.
