Brendan brings dialectical and developmental perspectives to his clinical work, using experiential and conversational tools to help his clients to work out and move past the internal contradictions and distortions keeping them "stuck." Viewing every stage of life as a growing process, Brendan endeavors to uncover potential openings for positive change and adaptive development to be found in one's relationships, work life, daily habits, and ways of thinking. Brendan works with all age groups. He has a natural ability with children and assessing ADHD and ADS. He is a patient, kind, even-mannered and balanced individual that brings reassurance and understanding also to adults. Brendan's areas of specialization and interest : behavioral activation for depression; supportive-expressive psychotherapy for anxiety and mood disorders; psychodynamic therapy; social-cognitive and existential therapies for psychological trauma; treatment of mood, anxiety, and stress-related disorders; assessment of executive functioning problems and ego development in children; assessment of neurodevelopmental problems and autism spectrum disorder. Working initially as a team with his father, Brendan took over his father's (Eugene P. Engen, Ph.D.) Waycross psychological practice in 2009 in order to continue Eugene's longstanding mission of providing effective and affordable psychological services to wider segments of the community.
