You spend years looking for someone who gets you, someone who completes you in so many ways. Sometimes you just can't find that person. Or you always mess it up. Or you do make a life with someone, and then you discover that you're arguing all the time, hurt, and lonely. Maybe relationships are not your issue: It's a career thing, an illness or a loss that you can't bounce back from. As human beings, we seem to need to give ourselves to things, to love and be loved. So why is it so hard? I have practiced for nearly 30 years, working with persons from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds. Whatever problem brings someone to counseling, the question is always the same: How can I give myself fully and not get hurt and disappointed? Let's try to understand what's not working. My practice is with adults, both in individual therapy and as couples. I have special interest and training in addressing issues around emotional and sexual intimacy, life transitions, faith, and loss. My orientation is psychodynamic and relational, often short-term, but also in-depth treatment where that is indicated.
