I guide clients through their counseling process so that they can develop self-confidence, form healthy relationships, live a life of authenticity, and find a connection with a higher Self. I believe that childhood experiences affect emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being so there's usually an emphasis on healing wounds from the past. I often work with gifted adults and youth. Most of them were not identified as gifted in school, do not see themselves as exceptional, and are very uncomfortable with the label. Gifted individuals have what I call "rainforest minds"-- complex, intense, sensitive, intuitive, creative, analytical. I help these clients understand the challenges that can accompany advanced intelligence/creativity including: perfectionism, sensitivities, inadequate schooling, expectations/ pressure to achieve, loneliness, multipotentiality, guilt/responsibility for ending the suffering of others. I also consult with parents to help them guide their gifted children. My blog: rainforestmind.wordpress.com I use a variety of methods, depending on the needs of clients. These methods include internal family systems therapy, grief work, journaling, art, guided imagery, sound, and psychoeducation. I've published articles on giftedness in the Psychotherapy Networker, Advanced Development journal, and the Register-Guard.
