Signs and Symptoms of Memory Disorders When an individual is suffering from a memory disorder, the initial signs and symptoms can oftentimes be minute to loved ones. Also known as neurocognitive disorders and frequently diagnosed as dementia or Alzheimer's disease, memory disorder symptoms can manifest at first in the form of a person becoming more forgetful. As the disorder progresses, an individual's ability to form and store recent memories can become impaired and details about one's past can be difficult to retrieve without the help of others. Communication difficulties can emerge, inappropriate social skills can become apparent, and some individuals with memory disorders may also begin to act out in an aggressive manner. It is important to take note of such symptoms so that appropriate interventions can be implemented. By seeking treatment for a memory disorder, the progression of such a condition can be slowed and allow a person to have a better quality of life. Treatment Options at MeadowWood Behavioral Health For adults who are struggling with the symptoms of memory, or neurocognitive, disorders such as dementia or Alzheimer's disease, MeadowWood is pleased to offer effective treatment via its Senior Behavioral Health Program. This program is specially designed for men and women, aged 55 or older, who are experiencing a decline in their cognitive abilities and complications due to the presence of Alzheimer's disease and related conditions. Comprehensive psychiatric and physical evaluations, medication management services, family therapy, psychoeducation opportunities, and various other therapeutic interventions are woven into the care offered in this program. Continued participation in all therapeutic activities is encouraged when a person engages in the Senior Behavioral Health Program, as doing so can further each patient's progress. The staff of caring professionals within this program also works closely with family members to provide them with the education and resources needed to help their loved ones during this phase in their lives. Lastly, these same staff members diligently work to ensure that each patient has the most thorough discharge and aftercare plan to meet his or her unique needs.
