I operate a private practice that provides family, couples and individual psychotherapy for all age groups. The primary emphasis or focus of these therapeutic efforts is that of attempting to understand (and make sense of) why one would be experiencing intense and/or pervasive emotional pain and turmoil (e.g. fear, shame, despair, rage, guilt, etc.) and/or as to why one would be experiencing difficulties in regard to establishing and maintaining meaningful and fulfilling interpersonal relationships (and noting how these therapeutic issues are interrelated). The treatment focus is on psychological phenomena as opposed to emphasizing brain disease theories. It is via being able to understand at an emotional, relational and developmental level (including the impact of past experience) that truly charactizes a helpful and growth promoting psychotherapeutic outcome. I generally do not place a great deal of emphasis on psychiatric labels and/or in attempting to push psychiatric medication. I pride myself in that I have been able to resist in my practice the corrupting influences of the managed care health insurance industry and have maintained a traditional fee for service model involving no contact with any health insurance corporation. This provides the assurance of total and absolute confidentiality.
