Children have a limited verbal ability to communicate how they think and feel about the world. Young children (ages 2-10) most naturally process and share emotionally significant experiences though play. Play is their language. As a Registered Play Therapist, I am trained to use the child's most natural form of communication, instead of asking the child to use ours. Play Therapy is a respectful, effective, and developmentally appropriate way to help young children who are experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral problems. The Healing Playroom provides play therapy for young children and the grown-ups who love them. While play is the language of children, toys are their words. The therapeutic playroom is a safe, accepting, predictable environment where children learn self-control, emotional awareness, and problem solving skills. They develop increased confidence and self esteem, and learn to take responsibility for their own choices and behavior. When young children are struggling, their grown-ups suffer. Filial Therapy can help parents regain control, discipline effectively, and respond to their child's needs. Parents experience increased confidence in their parenting skills, see improvement in their child's behavior, and most importantly, enjoy an improved relationship with their child.
