I am a psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapist and board-certified psychiatrist committed to helping patients realize the change sought in their lives. The individuals that choose to work with me are people with real-world concerns: struggling in their work lives, relationships or school, or feeling stuck in ways that may be difficult to define. I often don't need to recommend medication when a person is willing to look at themselves more closely, be curious about what it is that may be preventing them from being in a better place, and consider in what ways things might be different. While medication might be the life raft that helps a patient stay afloat, it won't teach them to swim. Imaging studies show that similar changes in the brain occur whether medication or psychotherapy is used. However, gains made with psychotherapy not only persist, but continue to grow going forward. Ultimately, any treatment success depends upon whether I am a good fit for you. "Fit" may refer to many things - personality styles, demographic (female, asian, northeastern ex-pat?), therapy type or logistical issues like office location/scheduling.
