I work witlh clients who bringa a diversity of issues to therapy. However I am especially invested in working with the LGBT community and their families. I am able to help clients who have the courage to seek help when needed. I encourage them to recognize and call on their innate strength and wisdom to find resolution and healing to the issues they are struggling with. My experience is that such work is sacred and often difficult yet ultimately worth the effort. To be invited by another person to share that process is a privilege. Current culture marginalizes lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender persons by being judgmental and dismissive of their pain. This often amplifies their sense of isolation, shame and invisibility. Family and friends often some of the same. I work with LGBT folk to help them claim their identity with pride. I utilize EMDR with clients to target not only major trauma experiences but also multiple "little t" traumas like failure, disappointment, low self-esteem, separation/divorce, grief and loss, etc. which are more common and experienced in the daily wear-and-tear of life of life.
