My office is a safe space for children to play games, read books, and talk about their successes and challenges. Parents regularly play an important role in the counseling process, whether through regular check-ins, participation in processing, or playing along with their child. I often utilize play therapy with children who have experienced trauma, as well as to help build social and play skills with children on the autism spectrum. I also embed Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) into sessions, which is an evidence-based treatment model shown to reduce behaviors parents or teachers may consider problematic.
