Motivated by a great desire to assist couples and families improve their most basic and important relationships, I structure therapy in a way that quickly becomes a "safe haven" for partners and family members. This allows them to explore the emotional patterns of their interactions and how they influence their needs and desires. I bring a wealth of life experience to therapy having been married for over 40 years, and fathering our five children. I have experience in residential treatment centers assisting families, and most recently using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help couples, individuals and families. I see relationships being improved by EFT, which assists couples/individuals/families to become aware of and improve their instinctive attachment, emotional and relational patterns. Empirical studies have shown EFT to be most effective in assisting these improvements. It typically consists of three stages --- de-escalation, re-structuring, and consolidation. I have a special interest in helping families faced with challenges presented by chronic health issues such as Autism or Manic/Depression; for these are challenges we have faced in our family.
