I work with clients whose psychological issues cross the boundaries between the body, mind, and spirit. A special interest is the broad spectrum of problems surrounding "Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder," often including anxiety, working memory deficits, and learning challenges. My approach integrates mindfulness, biofeedback, working memory training, and psychophysical self control with depth psychotherapy. I might first teach a client with ADHD mindfulness and breathing techniques to improve anxiety and attention, while reflecting on life experiences that give insight into the personal meaning of the attentional difference. Because many benefit from medication, I maintain close contact with prescribing physicians. ADHD is a focus of my practice. Because neuropsychological issues involve questions of meaning, self-worth, and place in the world, I never omit the personal. Furthermore, our culture often sees ADHD as laziness or irresponsibility rather than what it is: a brain difference. I help clients challenge this distortion. The uniqueness of my approach is that I integrate behavioral practices like breathing, brain training, and biofeedback with depth psychological and interpersonal therapy. The mind and body exist in a profound relationship of mutual influence; therefore, it is most effective to work in both directions at once.
