The dictionary defines emotional resilience as "an ability to recover from, or adjust easily to, misfortune or change." You might think that some people are naturally resilient and some are not, that the capacity for resilience is a matter of luck or genes. I think it is more complicated. The core belief underlying my counseling approach is that all people have the capacity for resilience and, thus, recovery. While counseling does not protect you from life's inevitable misfortunes, it can help you learn ways to increase the likelihood that your responses to adversity are constructive. I offer practical, solution-focused, evidenced-based therapies to help people move from distress to recovery. I can help you align your actions with your values, develop new life-enriching daily practices, and ultimately craft the life you want to live. My therapeutic approach is informed by evidenced-based practices: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Person-in-Environment Perspective, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Gottman Method Couples Counseling, Family Systems Theory, Grief Recovery Method®, EMDR, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Humor/Laughter therapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming. I am flexible, open to new ideas and focus on progress not perfection.
