REACHING FOR RESILIENCE: I enjoy working with people to help them to meet the challenges they are facing by accessing their own coping resources. Obstacles such as depression, anxiety and low self esteem can make it difficult to deal with life challenges. Helping people overcome such obstacles is often part of ongoing therapy. Although making changes requires motivation and hard work, humor, creativity and connectedness can not only lighten, but also enlighten the journey. When people begin to make progress in meeting a present challenge, their confidence is enhanced. Reaching for resilience is indeed within reach. A particularly meaningful aspect of my work has involved helping people to develop strategies to manage chronic medical problems, while at the same time living engaged and meaningful lives. The extraordinary strength that ordinary people show as they meet extreme challenges is something else. The human spirit is awesome! I have an optimistic outlook on life and find that focusing on the positive is as important as helping people deal with problems. I continue to enjoy getting to know a wide variety of people--sharing their journey to solve problems, to find meaning in life, to reach for happiness.
