During my counselor training and education I have developed a strong belief that when working through issues and struggles with a client it must be a holistic process. When a client comes to me seeking help, my goal will not be to focus solely on the issue brought in by that client. Time will also be spent exploring other areas of the client's life which may be contributing to, or possibly detracting from, whatever they may be currently struggling with. I would hope to work this way with adults and elderly clients experiencing difficult life transitions, relationship conflicts, grief, depression, and spirituality struggles. When working with clients, it's encouraging to put emphasis on the positive - what can be done. This is especially true working with elderly clients. Care must be taken to highlight times when they have overcome, even when being confrontational. I am currently receiving additional training in the field of gerontology and aging. My goal with clients will be to create a collaborative and caring healing environment. To me, this means I will do my best to meet each individual client in the midst of their struggle so I am better able to provide treatment which is unique to how they are experiencing that struggle.
